Recall Plans
FDA Definition: A recall is a voluntary action that
takes the place because manufactures and distributors carry out their
responsibility to protect the public health and well being from
products that present a risk of injury or gross deception or
are otherwise defective.
It is the intent any good company to avoid ever having to
recall product by having effective HACCP and quality
assurance plans. However, good planning requires that a
company prepare for such a contingency. An effective recall
plan is a documented product recovery program that can trace
the distribution of specific production lots and establish the
specific source of all raw materials, ingredients and packaging
materials for such lots. Surefish can assist your company in
developing all aspects of your recall program. Should your
company ever have to deal with a recall situation, your employees
will be prepared and ready. No firm wants to make critical
recall decisions at the moment of crisis - thus the
importance of having an established recall plan.
Mock Recalls
Many customers require that their suppliers conduct mock
recalls on a regular basis. They are also frequently a
requirement of supplier audits that a processor might
undergo in order to determine their eligibility to sell
to one of the large distribution companies. A mock recall
assesses the effectiveness of a company's recall program,
the readiness of the recall team and helps to identify
any gaps in traceability or problems that might have developed,
such as new employees not following established protocols. Surefish can
conduct a mock recall for your company to establish that your
recordkeeping and recall procedures would adequately address a
recall situation. Surefish provides our clients with a
complete report on the mock recall, including time, percentage of
recovered product and a description of any problems encountered.
